The test institute in Lathen

The testing in Lathen started in 2010 with the launch of the furnace for vertical test specimens as a branch of the accredited and notified testing centre for fire protection in Dortmund. In the following years, the test laboratory in Lathen was continuously expanded and currently has three vertical furnaces with a clear opening of up to 6.40 m x 5.3 m, a smoke test stand with a clear opening of 5.00 m x 5.00 m, a separate hall for durability tests and a sound-absorption test stand on a hall area of 2500 m².

A smoke control system specially built for fire tests ensures safe, environmentally conscious and climate-friendly decontamination of the combustion gases. The environmental management system of DMT GmbH & Co. KG is certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001:2015

These test reports are used as a basis for the allgemeinen bauaufsichtlichen Zulassung (general type approval) (abZ) at Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, Berlin and at VKF in Switzerland. Furthermore they are used in the European procedure according to the Building Products Regulation in accordance with the product standard DIN EN 16034 as a proof for the creation of classification reports according to EN 13501-2 as well as reports for the extended application (EXAP reports) and in addiation, serve as proof of usability all over Europe.

The DMT Testing Institute for Fire Protection is horizontally notified for tests according to the procedures EN 1366-7, EN 1634-1, EN 1634-3, EN 1364-1, EN 1364-3 and EN 1364-4 of the Construction Products Regulation. This means that tests according to these procedures can be used for bringing construction products onto the market according to harmonised technical specifications under the Construction Products Regulation (EU Construction Products Regulation, EU 305/2011 "CPR") with the CE marking.

Gladly we support you with our expertise to achieve all necessary approvals.

This involves testing the fire resistance of e.g. hinged doors, sliding doors, rolling doors, sectional doors and similar, for example, of fire resistance classes T30 or EI230. But also radiation-resistant EW closures or fire-resistant closures (e.g. textile curtains) which exclusively ensure the integrity (E30 to E180) are possible up to the maximum dimensions of 6.4 m x 5.3 m.
  • Fire testest according to DIN EN 1364-1, Fire resistance tests for non-loadbearing elements - Part 1: Walls

This part of EN 1364 specifies a method for determining the fire resistance of non-loadbering walls.

The purpose of the tests is to determine the fire resistance of non-load-bearing elements - such as internal walls and glazed partitions. Walls and glazed partitions can also be tested as corner designs in a special test frame.
  • Fire tests according to EN 1364-3, Fire resistance tests for non-loadbearing elements - Part 3: Curtain walling according to EN 1364-3 resp. EN 1364-4

This European Standard specifies a method for determining the fire resistance of curtain wall wallllings, either as a whole or in partial segments.
  • Fire tests according to EN 1364-5,  Fire resistance tests for non-loadbearing elements - Part 5: Air transfer grilles

Testing of air transfer grilles for installation in building components (typically walls). Vertical air transfer grilles can be tested at the site in Lathen.
  • Fire tests according to EN 1366-7, Fire resistance tests for service installations - Part 7: Conveyor systems and their closures

Conveyor systems and their closures are tested according to the above mentioned European harmonized testing standard and classified according to EAD 350022-01-1107 - Kit for closure system of conveyor systems.

The purpose of the tests is to determine the fire resistance of service installations - conveyors and their closure

Such European Technical Assessments are issued for construction products for which harmonised standards according to the Construction Products Regulation do not (yet) exist or which differ substantially from these standards.
  • Fire tests according to EN 45545-3

Railway applications - Fire protection on railway vehicles - Part 3: Fire resistance requirements for fire barriers
  • Fire tests according to MSC.307(88) (2010 FTP-Code) part 3, appendix 1

Smoke control

Smoke control test chamber – 5,0 m x 5,0 m

In the smoke control test chamber, maximum dimensions of up to 5.00 m x 5.00 m or 3.40 m x 3.40 m can be tested for smoke protection. All other dimensions can also be realized after on request. The test equipment was developed in 2011 according to the state of the art technical standards. The control of the test stand is fully automatized.

For the smoke control test chamber, 14 mobile exchangeable test frames are available for mounting the test specimens. These allow a very flexible test process, so that the waiting times between assembly or possible improvements to the test specimen and the tests are minimized.

  • Test according to EN 1634-3, Smoke control test for door and shutter assemblies (Doors, Gates, Shutter assemblies, Windows) to determine the leakage rate

Fire resistance and smoke control tests for door and shutter assemblies, openable windows and elements of building hardware - Part 3: Smoke control test for door and shutter assemblies EN 1634-3

This part of EN 1634 specifies a test method for determining the leakage of cold and hot smoke from one side of a closure to the other under given test conditions. The test may be applied to different types of closure designed to inhibit the circulation of smoke in the case of fire. This test method can also be applied to lift landing doors and railway conveyor closures.
  • Tests according to DIN 18095, tests for smoke control of smoke control closures (Doors, Gates, Flaps, Windows) to determine the leakage rate

Testing of smoke control doors - Type testing of durability and tightness according to DIN 18095-2

This standard specifies the test method to be applied for the verification of suitability of smoke control doors according to DIN 18095 Part 1 for durability and for tightness at ambient and increased temperaturer.

The purpose of testing the smoke control behaviour of smoke control closures or fire protection closures is to determine leakage rates.

Durability

The separate and video-monitored durability test hall has an area of 200 m² and provides space for 10 test specimens to be tested in simultaneously.

The test specimens are mounted in mobile changeable frames with an opening clearance of up to 5.0 m x 5.0 m.

Furthermore, test stations for gates and conveyor systems and their closures (conveyor system closures) are available up to the maximum dimensions of (W x H) 25.00 m x 4.50 m or 20.00 m x 6.00 m.

The purpose of the standard tests is to prove the durability of the self-closure (long-term functional tests). For this purpose the test specimens are subjected to a specified number of opening and closing cycles. The number of cycles depends on the aimed class or national requirements.

  • Durability tests according to DIN 4102-18, Fire behaviour of building materials and components; fire barriers, verification of automatic closure (continuous performance test)
